The quilts for Eryn and Megan are packed up and ready to mail. Most of the glaze disappeared when I washed the quilts after the photos were taken. It was a little sad, even though I knew it would happen, but the quilts look nice now that they’re all clean and puffy. I always wash quilts as soon as I finish them — especially baby quilts.
I think I prefer the petal quilting on the squares in this quilt, but my favorite border is on the first quilt. Anyway, it was fun to mix up the quilting designs since the quilts themselves are pretty similar. I’ve really enjoyed working with the heavier linen thread, and will certainly use it again, although probably not on glazed chintz. Having to use pliers as a thread puller was kind of a drag.
Chintz Baby Quilt #2

Machine Pieced, Hand Quilted

These beautiful quilts mean so much to me….they were made by my dearest friend Martha for my little twin granddaughters Eryn & Megan. The twins are precious because they had a tough time coming into this world. My hope is that when they’ve grown, the quilts will be handed down to their daughters or granddaughters.
Thank you, Martha!
They are both very pretty 🙂
Beautiful quilts! Your hand quilting really makes them sparkle! I have never heard of linen thread. I will have to do some research.
Wow, these are both so beautiful and your hand quilting is so perfect!! Such treasures you have made!! Happy weekend! xo Heather
They are beautiful quilts, Martha. It’s nice you chose different borders for the two quilts so the girls won’t quarrel over them when they’re a little older. (My 2-y-o grandson is just at the “mine” stage and I suppose all little ones go through that.) Looking more closely, I see that there are other differences, too.
I admire your persistence in quilting them with pliers! I think I might have given up and just tied them. They will last so much longer having been quilted.
I forgot how much I love chintz. Cute quilts. I’ve used linen embroidery thread before because I found it at a thrift shop and found it to be rather stiff.
Those are stunning little quilts – I bet they become family heirlooms. There is nothing like chintz!
These quilts to me are soft, calm and warm. Beautiful. Family heirlooms.
They are spectacular! I’m inspired to use up fabric (once my fall cleaning is done) and do something similar. I do love the petal quilting but they are both heirlooms to me!!! Wonderful job!
Was this a special order or a gift? I love that it doesn’t look like something you can get at Target. Not that you ever make things that look like you can get them at Target, but that is what moms seem to like these days. The quilts you made are so personal and feminine for these two new little girls.
From the time you posted the first twin quilt, I have found several different chintz fabrics and some fabulous linen florals in my thrifting adventures. I plan to make shoulder covers for off-season clothing items in the closet. I hope to embellish them with some vintage trims I have found along the way. No more dusty shoulders!
They are gorgeous Martha!
