Vintage Sunbonnet DOW Embroidery Transfers

Posted on November 1, 2015September 26, 2016 by Martha

These cute sunflowers girls were cut and loose, but I was able to identify them from 1937 newspaper ads. There are more Sunbonnet Girl transfers in earlier posts — another Laura Wheeler design, as well asĀ VogartĀ and Alice Brooks patterns.

Thanks for posting these precious sunbonnet transfers. Curious–were these originally intended for tea towels? Did the newspaper include suggested projects or did everyone just know what to do? Love these throwbacks. So full of charm!

It does amaze me though how the fiber artists of yesterday didn’t seem to need nearly as much guidance as we seem to need today. Perhaps that is because there were lots of neighbors around who could show you what to do?

      Sue took her bonnet off!
Catching up on your blog and enjoy the transfers and really love how you finished the log cabin quilt.
