. . . an old box stuffed with vintage quilt pieces. In this case, thousands of 1″ squares purchased on ebay that some nice quilter neatly strung together with double thread. What was she going to make with all these postage stamp sized pieces?
Fortunately, and I love it when this happens, she made one little block so I know that she was planning to make a Scrappy Double Nine-Patch. Unfortunately, she did not use a template to cut out any of the squares, so my blocks will be even smaller after I manage to trim the gazillion tiny pieces. Still . . . thank you, unknown 1930s quilter.
Oh wow, Martha, what a treasure box!
I think I would play with these little squares for hours and just look at them. 🙂 You will make something beautiful with them!
What an awesome box of vintagy goodness? How did you acquire the box?
Thanks, Monica and Joyce — purchased on ebay.
What a lovely find! Yay for you!
That is incredible! What gorgeous fabrics! The scrappy nine patch looks beautiful.
WOW! Martha. How beautiful all those little squares are! Where in the world did you find all those beautiful treasures? I am like Steffi. I would just have to look and play with them for awhile.
Wow, what a find you have. Sorry they are not perfect; but I am sure you will make them all work out in the end.
Wow! What a find. I would be so distracted just looking at all the vintage prints.
What a wonderful find! That is going to be a beautiful quilt. Love those vintage pieces of fabric.
whoa, that’s a lot of squares!
OMG Martha what a treasure trove! And all the fun of trimming each one. Any idea what vintage?
What a good find but not so fun that you have to trim the squares. But you will get to study each square as you move through the huge pile.
Ohhhh!! Goodness me, lucky, lucky, you!! How fun…just to sit and look at them would be enough fun, but then to quilt with them, another fun thing!! Have a ball!!!
I absolutely love the 1930s prints! Lucky you!
AWESOME….authentic 30’s prints! Enjoy!
Real treasure! How lovely, that they will be used at last!
You really hit the jackpot. What fun.
Ooo, I am so jealous!
Those pretty stack of 30’s prints were lucky to find you, one so patient and talented to make good use of them. Have fun, Martha!

fantastic score
Wow, what a find! Enjoy them!
Bless her heart! I can’t wait to see what you do with them!
That is an amazing find! I am so happy for you, though I know you have your work cut out for you resizing them all! So many great fabrics!
Orphan works in progress are a hobby of mine too, I feel almost compelled to finish them. It is comforting to think that all those we leave behind will someday be treasures to a future quilter. There are scrap quilters and art quilters and modern quilters, etc. Is there a name for this type of work?
Those are awfully sweet! They were destined to find a home with you. Have fun!
Hi Martha- I’ve been away on vacation and was delighted upon return to see that you have many new posts about works in progress that I have not seen before…what a treat! These two quilts with all their variety of fabrics are fabulous….I could look at them over and over and still be delighted with the charm of so many tiny little designs. Thank you for rescuing them and turning them into works of art.
Quite fantastic
Wow!!!

I found my stash at a salvage by the pound outlet. I used them to repair a vintage baby size quilt. I store the rest in a vintage jade green painted cigar box that someone long ago made into a doll house hutch.
