Making a little quilt in memory of my recently deceased pets really helps me in the grieving process. Because this is a mourning quilt, there are going to be several black prints from the 19th century, but I also wanted to include some antique pink pieces for Lucy, my sweet girl dog.
On my cutting table, I am staging the black, pink and shirting quilt blocks and pieces being considered for this little quilt. It’s all kind of a mess now, but it’s the way I like to work.
Martha I am so sorry for your loss! There are no words in this situation that can comfort but I am sending you lots of cyber hugs. I know how hard it is…
Hugs and hugs,
Mickie
It is hard to lose a beloved pet and you have found a unique way to remember your pet. I like the idea of the touches of pink.
I am so sorry to read about Lucy. I think making a mourning quilt is a very good idea. Our pets are so much a part of our families. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
I am sending you hugs and prayers for you during this process. I understand the loss you are feeling and hope for healing soon for you and your family. I know Lucy was as fortunate to have you for a Mama, as you were to have her as a pet.
Dear Martha-
I’m very sorry for your loss of Lucy. The mourning quilt is one lovely way to honor and remember her. I will follow your progress and think of how pets can add so much to the lives of their families.
I am sorry for your loss – it is very hard losing a pet…they are such special companions. I am touched by your posts – Lucy was blessed to have someone love her so much. I hope this project will give you peace.
I, too, have a “Lucy” and she is our 15th dog. My deepest symathy to you and your family.
Just found your blog by researching an old pattern called Sawtooth. This was a retreat quilt that I made last October and I made mine in 1800’s. Just love all your little quilts, beautiful work. Will be a follower now that I have found you. Judy
