A Sad Day

Posted on February 6, 2014July 28, 2015 by Martha

She was a shepherd/lab mutt puppy from the Humane Society — our first and only dog. I was really hoping she would make it to her 17th birthday, and she almost did. Lucy was such a sweet dog, and we will miss her. It’s time to make another mourning quilt.

Such a beautiful girl, your Lucy Gray. I know your heart is heavy today, but she is with you. Remember the Rainbow Bridge.

What a beautiful girl! If only pets could live as long as we do… 🙁

I’m so sorry for your loss. In many ways I think it’s almost harder to lose a beloved pet than a distant relative. We spend so much time with them and they never judge us. Blessings to you all those who loved Lucy.

I am so sorry for your loss. Our Kili was nearly 17 when we lost her. It is a good long life, but so many years of loved shared makes it so hard to bear the loss. May you meet again at the Rainbow Gate!

I’m very sorry for your loss. Losing a loved dog is really painful, and definitely part of the family. I hope your mourning quilt helps. We lost our dog this past June after spending almost 15 years with her, and I still miss her.

I’m so sorry! Wow, almost 17.

I’m so glad you are remembering her with a quilt. Seems very appropriate.

Surely you gave Lucy the kind of life that every Humane Society animal dreams of. Sympathies for you.

Awe, so sorry for your loss!! It is never easy to lose one of our furry friends. I miss my cat Jack every single day and he has been gone for over a year now. He had a pretty short stay with me but he was truly my best friend!

I just recently found your blog and have been enjoying your wonderful patterns. I wanted to say how sorry I am for the passing of Lucy. Our first baby with paws was 17.5 years when we had to say goodbye so I know how much Lucy meant to you. They have an amazing way of getting into our hearts and leaving a part of them with us forever.

I was also pleased to see the last name of “Gray” in your blog. That is my maiden name and I do not come across it very often even though it is not uncommon.

Thank you again for sharing your patterns with us. And again my sympathy for your darling Lucy. Be assured that she is patiently waiting for the day that you will all be together again. And perhaps she and Bridget have become fast friends and are sharing stories about their Humans.

    Cynthia

I know it has been over a year, but I’ve just run across this post! It broke my heart and my loss of Rocky flooded back. It is so sad to lose a loved companion. Our pets love us unconditionally, no matter what our mood! And it always lifted my mood, that’s for sure. But, then I saw your Lucy listed as 4/1/1997. My birthday is 4/1. Our Rocky was 5/4/1997. His most favorite day of the year was Christmas, and we lost him the day after when he was 11 years old. Christmas has never been the same. I love your quilt for them. It makes me want to do a Rocky quilt, for sure. Thank you for the inspiration, and even though it is late, I’m sorry for your loss! And thank you for all your shares of quilts and patterns. I love them all!

We have 3 we found on the street at different times in bad shape, and a 4th that just showed up one day and said, “I need a place to stay”. They have become our little children, bring us so much joy and laughter. To lose one is….painful. Thank YOU, for giving Lucy what she needed, a loving family.
