Here’s a dress that would be perfect for a little girl to wear on the 4th of July. There isn’t much vintage action going on here, with the exception of the linen collar and cuffs and the vintage pattern. The fabric is another print from Joann’s that I thought looked patriotic and reminded me of rick-rack. Most of these new, better quality Joann fabrics are $13/yd, but it’s not bad if you have a 50% coupon.
The pattern is Simplicity 2667, and I think it’s from the 1950s. The pleats are deep, so the dress is very full, which I like. The version on the pattern envelope with a solid red dress and striped apron is pretty cute, too.
It’s adorable. It looks a little longer than the illustrations, too, which I think is a good thing. I’m always surprised how short those little dresses were – although I think there were generally matching bloomers underneath. (One more thing to make, wear and wash if you ask me!)
What a cute little dress! It looks like it came right out of a time capsule.
The collar and cuffs increase the cute factor quite a bit. 🙂
Too cute! I love those little full dresses that fall from the shoulder or yoke. Such a classic look. Now if I just had some little girls to sew for….
Love the deep pleats and your fabric selection. Our JoAnns is not carrying the nicer 100% cotton that you have available in your area. Hence, I get my new fabric fix at http://www.fabric.com 🙂 and never have a problem finding something I like.
Oh what a cutie! Martha, this fabric is perfect! Reminds me of vintage fabric! Wonderful work!
Hugs, Mickie
Love this sweet dress! Joann’s has started to carry some exclusive Denyse Schmidt fabrics (I think that this might be one of them). I bet that many of her fabrics would appeal to you – especially since I have seen that her designs are sometimes based on vintage feedsacks. I am a jealous Canadian! We don’t have Joann’s. Thank goodness for the intranet!
I think I have that same pattern! Your dress is so darling. The ric rac is perfect with the pattern print.
