This cute owl print fabric inspired me to make this little dress for my niece’s daughter, Marjorie, who is 3 1/2. The dress is a size 4, but Marjorie is tall for her age, so I made the dress a bit longer than the vintage 60s pattern (McCall’s 9464). As usual, I made a few changes to the original pattern — this time to add my vintage Irish linen as trim and the owl-inspired embroidery work on the yoke.
When the dress was finished, I was a little disappointed that the embroidery didn’t show up all that well on the yoke. There’s enough owl fabric left to make another dress, so I think I’m going to try a different pattern where I can isolate the embroidery a little more.
Stunning! I love how you copied the fabric in your embroidery! I think it turned out beautifully!
It’s just wonderful! I love everything about it!
Great fabric!! Very nice work, as usual.
I think it is just lovely.
Martha, I think the owls show up nicely on the yoke. I love the addition of the rick rack! 🙂
Super darling…. not many take the fabric and run with a special design… some lucky little girl and her mama are sure to enjoy.
Well:) You DO have a blog!!! 🙂 I think the embroidery shows up great on the yoke..You have inspired me to try something similar for my grandaughter who will be 6 in November, but she is tiny:) I think a skirt, and embroidered top would work well:) Thank you again Martha for your kind words today…I will be visiting often!
Martha, I think the little dress is just beautiful. And the embroidery looks really nice, too. I think it shows up very well. You did a wonderful job. I love it.
Wow! That is really gorgeous! I love the hand embroidered touch.
This dress is wonderful! I think the embroidery is absolutely perfect – I wouldn’t change a thing. And you, Martha, don’t be so hard on yourself!
I made a quilt once where I repeated the print of geometric shapes in a center panel where the shapes were machine appliqued. The quilt sold very fast – my first sale in my Etsy shop.
I think this is just so beautiful! Thanks for sharing in the Flickr group!
