Whenever I see this pattern I am reminded of the beautiful Rose of Sharon bush in our backyard, and also the character Rose of Sharon (or “Rosasharn”) from The Grapes of Wrath. There are so many different Rose of Sharon patterns, but this is one of my favorites because I like the little center pinwheel and the quilted leaves (Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilts, 1981). Keep clicking on each page until the pattern pieces are full-sized. This pattern will make an 18″ block.
I had forgotten about Rosasharn. Promptly after finishing the book and bawling my eyes out, that is. I’m drawn to John Steinbeck, appropriately as a moth to a flame.
Beautiful pattern. Your blog makes me realize how much I enjoy going to quilt shows to look at beautiful things I will likely never attempt. I appreciate the artistry and skill of others.

I love this pattern. I was just looking for a rose for my memoryquilt for my mom who’s name is Rosa(lia) and this is perfect. I can use parts of her clothes to make it personal. Thxxxxxx
