Vintage Christmas Embroidery Transfers

Posted on December 8, 2011May 6, 2012 by Martha

Old Workbasket magazines had a sheet of embroidery transfers (red ink on craft paper) folded and stapled inside the pages.  On one side of the staples was a large sheet of transfers; on the other side was a little section (2 1/2″ x 8″) that had its own unique designs.  I’ve always loved these little bits, so I scanned all the ones I could find with a Christmas theme.

These are so small that you could easily stitch up a few before Christmas.  Click on each image for the actual size.

My sister gave me my first bundle of old Workbasket transfers. It was fun matching the separated strips with their larger counterparts.

Thank you for sharing this Christmas collection. There is a little something for everyone. I think I need to do that holly branch.

I’m not an embroiderer but I love redwork. A couple of years ago I made Christmas cards by tracing embroidery transfers onto Fabriano paper and then drew over them with a fine red permanent marker.
BTW, I love the quilt in the last post – the fabrics go really well together. Even the backing is lovely.

I love the way the workbasket transfer are sometimes a very random assortment. There is always a little delight somewhere on the sheet!

Thank you for these, Martha! I’ve been thinking about doing some white snowflakes on blue fabric, but haven’t had a chance to search for designs.
