Krohn Family Crossword Quilt

Posted on February 23, 2011July 27, 2015 by Martha

The Krohn Family Quilt for my niece, Jennifer, is finally done — my March project for Allie’s “Christmas Through the Year” club. I will probably take a break after this and focus on wedding stuff. It’s a good feeling, though, to know I have 3 gifts in the Christmas bank.

Originally, I had planned to do crosshatch quilting in the plain blocks, but after trying it out on one block, I didn’t think it looked that great. Repeating the circle design was my next choice, and I’m pleased with the way this turned out. Because I wanted to keep it simple and not detract from the crossword pattern, I decided to do all the quilting with 2 strands of embroidery floss in colors that match the blocks. Colored floss was also used in the letter blocks which were outline quilted around the letters and circles.

I think your Niece will be over the moon happy with this personalized quilt! I like the quilting design that you chose, and that you did it with floss. A little extra texture?

Sally and I are delighted with the way this turned out! It’s so clever! Did you tell Jennifer not to look? We especially like the back, which Sally had not seen yet!

I think the circle design is PERFECT, it somehow balances the squares with the letter circles. I’m so glad that you included pics of the backing!!! Great choice!!! Have fun with the wedding projects, are you counting down the days yet?
