Krohn Family Crossword Quilt Top

Posted on January 25, 2011February 23, 2011 by Martha

If you compare this top to my original plan, you’ll notice that I didn’t pay any attention to the colors of the background squares.  I have my doubts about the introduction of the bright red.   It looks okay in the letter blocks, but I’m not sure I like it in the background squares.  Since I’m not planning to start the quilting for a few days, I can mull it over in the interim.

The letter blocks were a lot of fun to make, and also easy applique.  It’s big enough (54″ x 60″) for a couch throw, or just a quilt for the kids to play with, so I won’t be adding any borders.  The quilting will be a simple grid in the background squares, and I’ll outline the letters and circles in the letter blocks.

I’m feeling pretty good, since I’ve (almost) finished 3 Christmas presents and it’s still January.

Wow, I’ve been thinking about starting Christmas gifts for this year but haven’t started yet. I’m trying to get into my first Craft Fair and have to focus on making things to submit an application. Just a little bitty fair. I love your quilt, the letter style is really neat.

Can’t believe you’re working on Christmas presents already… very smart of you tho!

Martha, I love it – and with the red in the background. And I think it would look better without the border, especially since you won’t need it. It’s wonderful!

It looks GREAT, Martha! It may look different in person, but I like the red blocks as I see them here. The other background colors are cool – I think the red is just the right dash of spice.

At this rate, you will be able to kick back and just enjoy the Christmas season!

Martha, this is awesome! I like the balance of red too. It draws the eye towards red letters. Great idea to be starting on Christmas presents early!
