This is a mail-away pattern (#7302) which was offered in newspapers in the 1940s from Needlecraft Services. The transfers were meant to be stitched as quilt blocks, and the instructions included a diagram of a quilt 3 blocks x 4 blocks with sashing and a wide border. The completed size was 72″ x 102″.
These designs would also look pretty used individually — I’m thinking on a pillow for a birthday gift.
I just managed to find the chart with flower names and colors which I have added as the last photo in the gallery.
These are really nice. Am I able to print one out and use it or is not permitted? I would think they would look cute as a pillow or as a framed embroidery. This would be a fun take along project. The adventurous could make into a neat quilt with like a 1940’s blue sashing.
Thanks, Meredith, and YES — that’s why I posted them. Please print them out and stitch away. I’d love to see a photo of your work.
These are lovely, thank you for sharing them!
Martha, these flower patterns are so pretty… I love the fullness of these bunches. Thanks a lot for sharing!
I think your idea for a birthday pillow is a good one! I would certainly need the color guidence – I don’t think it would be effective in redwork!!
These are so lovely Martha, thanks for sharing them!
I just downloaded all of the patterns from Flickr. Thank you so much for sharing them. It’s such a nice set. 🙂

My maternal grandmother had transfered these to fabric. My mom is now embroidering them. We are trying to find any information we can about them. I am very glad to see this. Thank you. I currently have the original transfers and a copy of the instructions. I may see if I can get the transfers to go at least a second round.
Thank you so much! I recently found these pretty blocks as I was cleaning out my recently deceased mother’s home. They were unfinished and I truly believe they were started by my grandmother and passed on to my mother. A good friend of mine finished them for me and so now I want to put them in a quilt. Any color suggestions? Can’t wait to see the finished product!
