Baby Doll Quilt

Posted on March 31, 2010 by Martha

The quilt for Baby Doll is finally finished. BD is the youngest daughter of my blog friend, Ann at Nifty Needle, and she needed a “blanket” for her doll. I think she is going to like this sunny yellow quilt made with 30s scraps. The prints in the top and the yellow fabric are vintage — the binding and backing are new. The batting is a piece of an old flannel sheet.

Because the colors reminded me of spring, I decided to quilt little tulips in the yellow spaces — they’re pretty small, so I hope you can make them out. The printed areas are quilted with an elongated football shape.

Tomorrow this little quilt will be on its way to Texas.

That is one cute quilt! I love the vintage fabrics, but the backing and binding really work well, with them. It just look scrumptious!

I LOVE IT MARTHA!!! The thirties fabrics are WONDERFUL and the yellow is SO sunshiny! You don’t know this about me, but I am also a tulip stalker. Our town plants them in the medians and outside public buildings like the library. Every spring I go take their picture until they “smile.” It just couldn’t be more perfect!

Baby Doll will love this sweet, little quilt. It is a special gift from a kind friend. Thank you Martha!

That is so sunny and pretty – and the backing goes perfectly with it! She’ll love it! The quilting is darling too.

Very nice! Lovely and cheerful yellow!

I took out a set of flannel sheets from the linen closet with ‘expired’ elastic. I gave them to the guy for garage rags. What was I thinking! I am going to rescue them back today when I get home from work!

This is absolutely beautiful like all your quilts. Such gorgeous fabrics, what a lucky little girl. Please could you tell me where the backing fabric is from/what it is called?
    Many thanks, Hen x

Happy Easter to you and yours Martha. Oh yes to go to London for the V & A exhibition! I have been there twice so far and not seen one quilt on display.
Any more blue and white blocks on the drawing board?
