ABC Embroidered Quilt Block – Yak

Posted on August 31, 2009 by Martha

The yak is finally done, so the ABC embroidery is complete. Now all I have to do is sew the last two rows together which I thought I would get done this weekend, but it didn’t work out. Looking back at my first post of the alligator block on May 18, I realized that it’s taken me over three months to complete this embroidery (and the pinwheels). The circus blocks should go much faster since the drawings are pretty simple — more like the Simple Objects Quilt.

The varigated floss really makes him look realistically shaggy! I like the ‘pop’ of green and yellow – it really balances the block.

Can’t wait to see it all put together!

Congratulations on finishing the last block!! I agree with Jan, the green grass is a nice touch. You’ll be glad to get this quilt finished and out of the way now I suppose! 🙂 It has been a long time, but it didn’t seem like it at all. Not for those of us following the quilt, anyway! Haha. Take care!

CONGRATULATIONS! According to my calculations (done by my tired, fuzzy brain) you averaged one block approximately every three days this summer AND you made two baby quilts AND pieced the sashing AND two butterfly blocks AS WELL! And that’s just the stuff I remember off the top of my head! That is a VERY impressive list of productivity!!!

Mr. Yakkity Yak DOES look suitably shaggy as Jan and Bunny have said! I also love those shaggy y’s and the look of wisdom on Mr. Yak’s face!

I bet you are looking forward to surveying the finished top with a “job well done” sigh…

    🙂

You are awesome. I thought I could tackle this project too but am stalled on the second block. What font are you using for the alphabet? I love it and have yet to find one that I would consider using. I can’t wait to see the final quilt! What are you planning to do with it? Is it a gift or maybe something you won’t want to part with?

I cannot believe how quickly you have managed all of this embroidery! I am very excited to see the final product…although I’ll kind of miss seeing the new letter every few days.
