Rail Fence Baby Quilt

Posted on November 22, 2009July 27, 2015 by Martha

This little quilt was made with scraps from vintage floral sheets and pillowcases which I purchased on Etsy.   The fabric is mostly 50/50 polyester and cotton blend — it’s very soft, but not as nice to sew with as 100% cotton fabric.  Because the patterns are so similar and there was no way to create contrast, I decided to put sashing between the blocks.  The quilt is tied with embroidery thread and bound with the same strips I cut for the blocks.

Here’s the cute recipient of this Christmas present — little Aubrey with her great grandmother, my sister Jean Ann.

What a cutie! The quilt is very girlie and sweet! The flowers look very abstract and give the quilt a modern look, but also a very comfy look! I am sure it will be a favorite!

She’s a little sweetie! The quilt is really pretty – I like the colors very much. I also like the grid the sashing makes.

That is the SWEETEST baby quilt – I love all the vintage florals! I use sheets for backings for my quilts – you’re right, they’re a little harder to sew with but when they’re old, they’re so soft.
Aubrey is adorable! She looks so comfy there with g’gma.
