The quilt that I am copying is from the book, Classic Crib Quilts. Because my scraps from the Album quilt are so small with just a few of each print, I knew I would need a scrappy quilt pattern with fairly small pieces. When I saw this little quilt, I knew right away that it was the one.
At first I thought I would hand piece the blocks, but there were so many seams to sew through that I quickly gave that up and stitched the next two on the machine — it was much easier. The fabrics are a mix of scraps from the Album quilt and another group of antique blocks I’ve had for a long time. Selecting the prints and then scrounging around trying to find enough of the required sized pieces is a lot of fun — another puzzle-type project.
The blocks will finish just slightly over 3″ and the vintage fabric in the background is going to be the sashing. I haven’t decided yet how many blocks to make. My favorite is the pink block — I love that XoXo print.
Your blocks will make up very well into a quilt much like the one in the book. A worthy project to be working on and a good quilt to add to a collection of small repro quilts.
Oh Martha! Those tiny little blocks are adorable. The way you place the fabrics makes each one look so special. 🙂
I like the way you say the blocks are like making a puzzle. That’s just how I’d describe it. I’ve had people just shake their heads at my trying to salvage every scrap of vintage fabric. They just don’t get it do they? 😉
Those blocks are so sweet – the pink one is my favorite too!
The pink one is DEFINITELY my favorite also – and with Valentines approaching you are SO in season (although I don’t know if vintage XO’s mean the same thing)! LOVE the background fabric you are using. It is so crisp and a nice change from the usual check or stripe used for sashing. I’m glad you put the penny there for size comparison. I can’t BELIEVE that little square in the middle isn’t much bigger than Lincoln’s head!!
It’s going to be a corker, Martha!
I will never be able to throw out any scrap, after having seen the magic that you make with them! Really pretty blocks! The fabrics are just great!
perfect choice , love this quilt! oh your blocks are wonderful
great comparison compared to the penny you can really see the scale of the blocks/fabrics
thanks!
I have to agree with Ann the pink one is my favorite so far, the sashing fabric in that block is amazing….what a treasure this quilt will be
you have me looking at antique quilts on ebay differently now 🙂
looking forward to seeing more progress, thanks Martha!

These are wonderful looking! Now oddly enough your XO fabric reminds me of one of the ribbons my sisters and I use to buy in the 60’s and 70’s to add to the bottom of our jeans to make them longer when we were going through growth spurts. I wish I had kept some of those ribbons but after they were sewn on our jeans they usually would be in tatters within a few months.
The tiny blocks are just adorable. I love the fussy cutting you did for the stripe fabrics. The background fabric is so lovely for them.
I’m in love with the doll quilt you posted too! Thanks for sharing!
These are absolutely beautiful. Your quilt is going to be just wonderful!
