Vogart Embroidered Lambs Quilt

Posted on June 30, 2014June 30, 2014 by Martha

As I was looking through my new book, Childhood Treasures: Doll Quilts By and For Children (2008) by Merikay Waldvogel, I came across this quilt.

and I was so happy because look what I have.

The blocks are older (1932) than I thought, and I was so lucky to find them without any stitching, because I want to do that myself. The maker of this quilt didn’t bother cutting the blocks apart, but just used a running stitch on the cutting lines. I’ll add sashing or alternate blocks to mine.

Now, if I could only findĀ a backing fabric as cute as the one in the book. Maybe I’ll have to startĀ searching for a vintage lamb print.

Adorable, Martha! Aren’t you lucky to have such a sweet set of blocks. You never mention but I wonder where you find your vintage fabrics. Are you an ebay shopper, are they local finds, or so you have some other source? I don’t spend much time on ebay (well, none, to be specific) but I rarely find such wonderful things at our local thrift stores. We used to go to auctions and tag & estate sales but rarely do these days.

What a great find, Martha! This is such a cute set of blocks. It would be so adorable in a childs room. With the sashing and alternate blocks, you could probably make it big enough.

Lambs are one of my favorite images from that era for children’s items. I can’t wait to see your version!

What a great find! How interesting (to me) that they’re already tinted.

How sweet – I have an old quilt magazine [from the 90’s I think] that has that pattern in it!

I just bought this baby quilt at a flea market and repairing it. I wonder what it’s value would be.
