Cross-Stitched Tulip Quilt

Posted on December 7, 2011March 21, 2013 by Martha

This little throw is made with vintage blocks purchased from Barbara at Oodles.  The blocks were probably from a stamped quilt kit, and they have been stitched with green and a combination of variegated and plain pink floss.  Many times in these old sets the background fabrics are yellowed or stained, but these were in perfect condition.

The tulip border and the solid green are both vintage glazed chintz fabrics from my stash.  I bought the tulip blocks thinking they would look good with the border print, and I think they do.

Because I’m in a huge rush and my carpal tunnel has flared up, the hand quilting isn’t the best I’ve ever done.  Most of the stitching was done while I was wearing my brace, which is a bit tricky.  Anyway, I’m okay with the way it turned out, since it’s just a little utility throw and not some heirloom project.

As soon as I saw the title, I was excited to see the finished project – lovely, as usual! Hope your carpal tunnel eases up – too much Christmas sewing?

Wow, vintage fabric even! Sorry that your CT is acting up.

I went and busted my thumb, so our oldest rigged me up with an embroidery hoop I can stitch in while propping it with my brace.

Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Girl! I’ll take your “utility” throws anyday! It is gorgeous and the quilting is beautiful. Your work, even with CTS, beats most of us on a healthy day. Hope it feels better soon. Nothing worse than being in the mood to do handwork and not being able to.

Martha, it is a beautiful little quilt! The border compliments the Tulip blocks perfectly! And your hand quilting is beautiful too. So sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel. I hope your pain eases soon.

Beautiful work as always Martha! I love the way you set and finished these pretty blocks. The tulip border is perfect.
The quilting looks pretty good to me. I’m so sorry to know your CT is acting up. When I had trouble I was told to wear a hard brace while sleeping to make sure I didn’t bend the wrist. It really helped it heal faster.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. 🙂
