An apron with an apron! This is an old Wilendur napkin that I thought looked cute with the red printed gingham. Although this is a pretty simple design, it took longer than any of the others because of the hand stitching. I tried a little chicken scratch embroidery on the hem, and the binding on the napkin needed to be done by hand. It would be fun to do that old-style apron with the kitchen towel attached to the waistband, but I don’t have a cute vintage towel with the right look. It should be terrycloth with fringe, but most of those are just not that cute.
I used a fusible to attach these appliques which came from vintage drapery fabric remnants. My favorite part of this apron is the adorable vintage rose print fabric which makes an especially cute big bow. I think I need to do some more big bows, which don’t really take any more fabric than the smaller version. My rolled hem attachment is perfect to use on the big bows.
I’m not completely sure how many aprons I need to make, but I think it will be around 20. If I have any left over, I could always do a give-away.
Each of your aprons are a masterpiece! They just get cuter and cuter.
What a fun shower this is going to be. 🙂
Giveway? my ears sure perked up!
I have some vintage aprons but none are as cute as these – I think you are just getting into your stride – you keep coming up with some new marvel. Can’t wait to see how you could possibly improve on these…???
My mother had a rose table cloth that looks like what you used in the red gingham apron. I have it now plus a twin that I bought in an antique shop.
It used to be that a good housewife always had several aprons. I remember sewing a dressy apron for my mother at school….maybe second grade. We stitched them by hand and added a row of sequins.
These are all so beautiful. I hope a fight doesn’t break out over them, though every one of them are special!
An apron with an apron – oh brilliant – mercy Martha, how will you do the gifts? Let people choose one, or assign them to names, maybe put one on each chair? They’re all so unique and so gorgeous!!!!! That rose print is stunning.
I love the two layer aprons! What a great idea to use the napkin!
The layering look is wonderful although it seems to be more time consuming. Big bow on the back is beautiful!
So cute…I always leave your blog smiling Martha!!
P.S. A giveaway….ahh yes!!
The aprons ares o lovely, Martha, how lucky the guests at your daughter’s wedding shall be. I adore the little pink rose fabric, I have had 2 FQs of it and used it sparingly so I’d definitely be wishing for that one with its beautiful bow! I have a FQ of the same design in purple/lilac but it’s not so pretty.
