I’ve been working very hard on this top to finish embroidering the top two rows. Honestly, I do not like being rushed when I’m doing handwork, but I have only myself to blame. It’s been almost a year since I started this quilt, hoping to have it done in plenty of time for the holidays. What can I say….I am easily distracted!
Rather than begin the quilting now, I am just going to hang up the top this Christmas. Hopefully I can manage to finish the quilting by this time next year.
That sure is a lot of embroidery Martha! but it looks really beautiful. Hope it made a dent in your scrap bag.
Hi Martha- This top is absolutely charming. I still think you should submit it for the cover of a quilting or needlework magazine. It’s a showstopper and you should be very proud of it!
I love this one! It looks vintage with those cute designs. I agree you should display it as is…sometimes the quilting gets delayed? I’ve got a few of those myself! 😉
Martha, I really love this quilt! I have printed out the pages and I am working on drawing them up. It is the perfect project for someone like me, who is very color challenged! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
What an awesome quilt!!! I think it will be perect hanging as a top. You should be able to enjoy it without it being finished!!!
Martha, you NEVER cease to amaze me! To think you have done ALL this beautiful stitching in the last twelve months as well as all the other wonderful projects you have posted! (do you ever look back at posts and think, “I forgot I did THAT!”)
This top will be fabulous as is, as part of your Christmas decor – you’ll need to put it in an area of the house which has ample room for through traffic though, because everyone will HAVE to stop to admire the details, and it is chock full of them – LOTS of fun!
i think it is wonderful and i love the things that inspire you.
i love seeing your photos in our group on flickr…it makes my admin duties so much fun!
Beyond adorable!!!
This quilt is beautiful!!!! Are you using 2 or 3 strands of floss? Which floss are you using?
You have really outdone yourself, Martha!! Thank you so much for sharing your quilt and the coloring book patterns!! This one is on my “to do” list for sure.
Tooooo cute. Reminds me of the Christmas coloring books when I was little. So much love has gone into this quilt already. What an heirloom!!!
Your Christmas quilt is the most beautiful one ever. All the time and love that was put into this quilt. I am green with envy. grin grin. This is what Christmas is all about. Kids and that wonderful time of the year.
Wow this is amazing. So beautiful.
Martha, each time I see this quilt, it makes me happy, happy as in childhood-happy. Childhood-happy is when we think back to the more innocent days of our youth with music like Thumbelina playing on a HiFi, bubble lights on real Christmas trees, big straight peppermint sticks, ribbon candy, and the family happiness when gathered together. Your quilt with all of the festive colors is all of that….And more. I love this happy happy quilt!
Hi Martha,
You said this quilt came from more than one book and that you would upload the second book. I was just wondering if you had done so yet? I would love to make a similar quilt to this one, yours is so awe inspiring! If not, could you let me know when you have it done and if so can you point me in the right direction? I hope you had a wonderful holiday and wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!
Pam
